Studded Tires
I am sure you will all be glad to know that Lynda took the Honda with the (illegal) studded tires over to Idaho (where they are legal) yesterday with unstudded tires loaded in the back. Plans are to have them swapped out this weekend.
If all goes well, she will come home Sunday . . . legal.

OOPS!
Lynda went to drop off car Friday and Les told her there was a line up when they opened in the morning and not taking any drop offs for the rest of the day.
Not likely it will be any better today. Closed Sunday.
So, like my parents, she will be sneaking over the Washington boarder tomorrow...with 'illegals'

We purchased new tires for the Jeep Wrangler ('95 with just under 20,000 miles =) last Monday at Les Schwab. Regular tires, we don't put studded tires on the Jeep. They were super crowded and when we picked it up later that day, they said we were one of the only paying customers that day. Note to Californians - if you purchase the studded tires from Les Schwab, there is no change for changing back and forth for the life of the tires - so they are all crowded to the max this time of the year.

Studs
Alas, try as we do, we are still studded. Monday I dropped the car off a Les’s before my eye doctor appointment and walked the 4-6 blocks to the doctor’s office. It may not have been Les himself, but someone told me it would be about three hours to get studs off and summer tires on. Since both set of tires are already on their own wheels, we all know that the actual process only takes about fifteen minutes, but they open a 8am, it was 9 and I was just a walk-in with no appointment. So the wait was understandable. Also, they do this change over with no charge, so there was little incentive. They took my cell phone number and off I went.
More on the doctor visit later, but two hours and forty five minutes later I returned only to find our car where I had parked it, studs still on. I had received no courtesy call to explain they may be ‘a little’ late so I went in to find out the status. Their small parking area was small (Honda was on the street), but no one waiting inside. The clerk took my name and went to find out what was happening. She returns after a minute or so saying “not looking good, they don’t know when they will get to it”. I take my keys, car and leave. Les Schwab is now on my LIST. In their advertisements they show how some one RUNS to your car as you drive up to see how they can help…and they did in Sandpoint, not in Colville.
I went to the little ‘Ma and Pa’ tire shop in Kettle and made an appointment to bring car in at 11 am Thursday. He (the owner, front desk guy and mechanic) said it would take about fifteen minutes.
We will see Thursday. Then again, it probably will not be free either.
Until then, I guess I am the Stud of Kettle!

Studless in Kettle.
Good News: They're off! Studded tires removed, summer tires on. Fifteen minutes and $10. Who needs an old Les Schwab?
Bad News: Snow predicted for Friday through Sunday! There goes that Heron again.
With the recent warm weather/ground warming/snow melting, I doubt that much if any will stick to the ground. But they are predicting low 20s at night in 'some' areas. I think we will park the car up at the summit just in case.
