HRB VI - The FOS

But first . . . the breakroom! An important part of any business. This one happen to also be the other half of our Manager's Office.

And (finally!) the Fortress of Solitude (aka The FOS). If you ignore all the wiring in the ceiling, not a bad place. There are two computers, a printer, pictures of children and grandchildren. We brought the phone network in to the office this week, carpet, even a table that some may recognize from my home office in Idaho.

We can access the Internet and HRB Network, monitor activity at workstations, receive calls and conference with the bee hive of activity upstairs. Soon there will be a wireless network to allow our laptop computers on to the World Wide Web.

We could even prepare taxes if we were so inclined!

Okay, that's it! Everyone who is interested has seen more than they ever wanted to see about our new franchise.

"At H&R Block, You've Got People" No, wait. That was last year's slogan. "Click, Call or Come Over" :o)

This is our Office Manager's "office". Computers on the ground to the left in the picture are leaving. All new units have been installed to better serve the customer.

Here, 'Terry the Tech' works to upgrade our network. Operation REWIND took place this past weekend. We had the office re-imaged from a company owned unit to a franchise owned unit.

Another Tax Pro (Sara) comes in on her own time to adjust a filing for a client.

Now we move inside.

This is one of our three receptionists (Erica). They greet the clients, take incoming calls, collect our fees and keep the office running. We refer to them as our CSPs (Customer Service Professionals)

Below is what the client sees as they are following a tax professional to their work station.

And here are two of our eleven tax professionals working through the tax interview process.

Actually, you can only see our most senior pro (Mary). She has been doing other folks taxes for HRB (and now us) for over 20 years. You can almost see Murry working further behind her with his client.

Day Six

On the tender, returning to our ship. That's a Carnival cruise ship in the pic.

It's quite a popular destination spot -- lots of folks arrive via their boats/yachts.

We have some friends from the Bay Area that have lived there for 10 years or so -- they currently have a jazz club (all be it very small) right on the marina/water front.

It's a busy place!

Day 4

Mazatlan ('Place of the Deer'): Is a thriving commercial seaport and a working city.
If you enlarge this pic, you'll see hundres of vehicles, parked at the port. Hundreds and hundreds of vehicles are imported to this port for Mexican domestic market while others are shipped overland to United States and Canada.

The local Police Department - bikes and motor bikes are the best way to get around town!

Rugged hills and an island welcome you into the port.

There is a marina cafe at the port/terminal area. This fellow got up from one of the tables outside, removed his T-Shirt and walked/dove into the water and came up with traps of some sort. Perhaps 'very fresh' shrimp or crab for the cafe?

The port terminal had an inspection of sort sort this day.

Storm at Sea

It wasn't much of 'high seas' but you could feel the movement on the higher decks (not in our cabin at all) -- but the rest of the time you can hardly feel any movement at all. Just lasted a couple of hours.

Day 2-3

Explored the ship on Monday and Tuesday (instead of going into Cabo on Tuesday, we continued to sail to Mazatlan to avoid storm Patricia. Then picked up Cabo on our return.)

The ship has a rock-climbing wall (no, we didn't), ice skating rink (yes, I did - it's rather small - stock picture above), inline skating track (yes, but didn't last long), minature golf (we're both about equal, not bad actually), sauna/steam room (I last longer than GOUB) along with a full Spa Area (extra $), lots and lots of places to eat (including a Johnny Rockets - 50's style and a 3-deck high main dining room) and casino, along with the usual entertainment. There is a Sports Deck and teen's only center and organized activities for younger folk, too. There are multi pool decks -- including family pools with fun activities and adult pool which is very quiet.

The Royal Promenade (stock pic above) is about 350' indoor mall featuring indoor pubs, shops, cafes, ice cream parlor and bars. The Promenade is 4 decks high with 'atrium-view' inside cabins (shown above in a stock pic) that provide a unique window (unique for inside cabins) that allows viewing down onto the promenade -- which is also where they have parades. There are scenic glass elevators that go up 13 decks.

Last pic is taken from our taxi in Puerto Vallarta of the ship. We were the only ship in town in PV.

Next: A couple of shots from our balcony on Tuesday afternoon when we hit a little rough waters -- it only lasted a couple of hours. Other than that, it was smooth sailing and sunshine the whole trip.
